1 Seriously Injured in City Heights Crash on Interstate 15 Near University Avenue
SAN DIEGO, CA (June 29, 2021) – One was seriously injured after a DUI wrong-way crash on the Interstate 15 in the City Heights community.
The San Diego Union-Tribune and NBC San Diego wrote that the accident occurred late Monday night. Officers reported the wreck at about 11:30 p.m.
The incident happened on June 28 when a Ford Fusion was traveling north in the southbound lanes of the Interstate 15 in City Heights. At the same time, a Toyota Corolla was going south.
The Ford then slammed head-on into the Toyota near University Avenue. The California Highway Patrol said the Fusion ultimately struck at least three other cars.
DUI Wrong-Way Driver Hits Several Cars
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found the driver of the Corolla hurt as a result of the collision. The victim sustained major injuries upon impact.
Medical personnel rushed the patient to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials did not release the name of the wounded party and their condition at this time.
Meanwhile, CHP determined that the man driving the wrong-way was under the influence when he hit the other vehicles. They soon arrested him on suspicion of DUI.
Officers forced the southbound lanes of the Interstate 15 to shut down following the crash. Authorities are still investigating the City Heights collision.
