COACHELLA, California (February 22, 2015) — Three people were critically injured Saturday night in a suspected DUI collision on Avenue 54 at Enterprise Way, according to a press release by the Riverside County Fire Department.
CAL/FIRE Riverside County fighters responded to the 9:30 p.m. crash involving two passenger vehicles.
The driver of a red Ford Focus was identified as Stefan Thomas Keen, 53, of Santa Monica. He allegedly veered into opposing traffic and crashed head-on into a blue Acura 3.2L, injuring himself and two others.
Two people were airlifted and one was taken by ground ambulance to local hospitals for treatment of major injuries. Police are investigating the crash and initial findings were that Keen was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol. Due to his major injuries, Riverside police will file charges out of custody, the Riverside Sheriff’s Department stated.
“Hopefully all the people hurt in this crash have a full recovery,” said Attorney James Johnson.
Police are heading up an investigation into the crash to determine liability.
