UPDATE: Man, 21, Hurt in Crash Dies of Injuries on March 16

COACHELLA, California (March 7, 2016) — A 21-year-old man was killed and four people suffered moderate to major injuries Sunday afternoon in a crash involving two motorists at Avenue 52 and Grapefruit Boulevard, a Riverside County Fire Department report said.

The drivers of a Ford Focus and a Dodge Dakota collided after one of them made a left-hand turn in front of the other at the intersection. One of the individuals was trapped in a vehicle and required extrication by firefighters at the scene following the 3:52 p.m. crash.

Paramedics rushed three people with major injuries and one with moderate injuries to a local hospital by ambulance and Mercy Air Ambulance helicopter. One of the occupants later died of their injuries on March 16, 2016, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

A full investigation is underway to determine liability.
