Meanwhile, authorities handling the investigation mentioned the involved Ford driver was identified as 33-year-old Salvador Celaya. Sobriety tests suggested Celaya was under the influence during the crash.
Riverside officials noted charges will be filed against Celaya for felony driving under the influence and causing injuries to another person.
The California Vehicle Code Section 23153 states that it is unlawful for a person, while under the influence of any alcoholic beverage, to drive a vehicle and concurrently do any act forbidden by law. It is a violation for an intoxicated motorist to neglect any duty imposed by law in driving a vehicle which proximately causes bodily injury to another person.
In this specific case, it is evident that Mr. Salvador Celaya will be held liable for causing the collision that led to an innocent man injured. Victims in DUI accidents have the right to pursue a personal injury claim against the at-fault driver, and seek compensation for damages incurred in the crash including hospital bills, future medical needs, lost wages, and emotional trauma.
