Authorities received notification of the collision at 11:25 p.m. on Highway 86 near Avenue 52.
Upon the arrival of the Coachella Police Department, the victim identified as Juan Hernandez was pronounced deceased at the scene.
It was confirmed the Indio man was initially struck by an unknown vehicle whose driver failed to stop and fled the scene. Moments later a second driver struck the lifeless body of the man whose driver did indeed pull over and was cooperative with police.
The second driver who struck Hernandez was determined to have not been under the influence and was not arrested or cited.
No information or leads have been provided at this time regarding the hit-and-run driver or vehicle.
Both the Coachella Police Department and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department are teaming up on the investigation.
