COACHELLA: Mother and Infant Struck by DUI Driver at Avenue 52 Near Bagdouma Park
COACHELLA, California (October 7, 2015) — A mother who was pushing her infant son in a stroller to Bagdouma Park was struck Tuesday night as she crossed Avenue 52 by a suspected DUI driver, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The pedestrian accident was reported at 7:17 p.m. The suspected drunken driver was traveling westbound on Avenue 52 in a Honda Accord when he allegedly struck the victims who were walking in a marked crosswalk with flashing pedestrian lights activated. The mother and infant were both taken to a local hospital for treatment of moderate and minor injuries respectively.
The Coachella Police Department responded and evaluated the driver identified as Frank Arechiga, 41, of La Quinta. It was determined he was possibly under the influence of alcohol and or drugs and he was promptly arrested after he was first checked out at a hospital for injuries. He is charged with felony DUI causing major injuries.
