5 Firefighters Hurt in Red Bluff Truck Accident
RED BLUFF, Calif. (Sept. 28, 2018) — Cody Mackel suffered major injuries in a collision that also hurt four other firefighters Wednesday afternoon on the Interstate 5 Freeway.
The truck the firefighters were riding in veered off the freeway and overturned, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash took place about 3:55 p.m. The driver of the box truck, Kevin Crone, 32, of Magalia,was driving northbound on the I-5 when he lost control of the truck and it crashed south of Tehama. Mackel, 33, of Paradise, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff.
The driver and his passengers, David Jones, 27, of Chico, Dylan Kelley, 20, of Paradise and Steven Brannon, 26, of Chico, all suffered minor injuries and were taken to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital in Red Bluff.
The truck belongs to Firestorm Wildland Fire Suppression Inc. of Chico.

Police are piecing together evidence and will determine fault for this crash.
