Cody Sanderson Semi-Truck Crash Laytonville Highway 101 Spy Rock Road

Cody Sanderson, 35, Seriously Injured in Laytonville Crash on Highway 101

MEDOCINO COUNTY, CA (April 13, 2022) – A fatal crash left Cody Sanderson seriously injured on Highway 101 near Laytonville.

The California Highway Patrol identified the 35-year-old Willits man as the victim of the wreck which took place on Monday afternoon.

The incident happened when Cody R. Sanderson was driving a white 2011 Peterbilt Tractor Trailer south Highway 101 near Laytonville. At the same time, a 2021 Nissan Titan was going north.

For an unknown reason, the pickup truck crossed into the southbound lanes. In the process, the car slammed head-on into the semi-truck hauling soil.

Man and Dog Killed in Wreck

CHP said the two crashed just south of Spy Rock Road. The Willits News and KYMKEMP wrote that the accident occurred on April 11 at around 2:30 p.m.

Cody Sanderson sustained major injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics rushed him to the Howard Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, the Nissan became fully engulfed in flames due to the impact of the collision. The driver of the pickup and one of his dogs died at the scene.

Officers took the other dog to the Mendocino County Animal Care Services shelter. CHP forced Highway 101 to shut down in both directions for six hours following the wreck.

The cause of the Laytonville crash is still under investigation.
