Three Injured on Deadly Stretch of Reche Canyon Road Known for Head-on Crashes
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, California (June 25, 2015) — Three people were injured when two drivers overturned Thursday morning in a head-on car crash in front of 7845 Reche Canyon Road, just east of Center Street, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash, between a black Mitsubishi Lancer and a blue Ford Focus, was reported about 8:13 a.m. when police and paramedics were advised of the incident. A third driver may have also been involved. One of the vehicles was reportedly on fire after the crash. The Riverside County Fire Department rushed to the scene to help the injured. Three people were treated and two of them were transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center for further evaluation or treatment. The injuries were classified as minor in the report.
Tow trucks from Lawlers Triple L Tow and Moreno Valley Tow removed vehicles with flatbed trucks.
Police are looking into the circumstances leading the crash to determine liability.
RECHE CANYON ROAD ACCIDENTS
This stretch of Reche Canyon Road has been the scene of previous head-on crashes. The route is a busy one that is used by more than 15,000 motorists daily and connects unincorporated Riverside County to Colton and Loma Linda.
Indeed, in March 2015, a two-vehicle rollover crash caused one person major injuries near this location in the 7500 block of Reche Canyon Road, the Press Enterprise reported. The person later died of their injuries.
Five years ago, three people were injured in a head-on crash here in this same location, the Daily Breeze reports.
“There are some dangerous roadways in Riverside County and this is certainly one of them,” said James Johnson, a Riverside personal injury attorney.
