Hit and Run Suspect Nathan Jaimes, 18, Arrested
TARZANA, Calif. (August 16, 2024) – Comedian Perry Kurtz, 73, died late Thursday night in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Ventura Boulevard in Tarzana.
Police arrested the alleged 18-year-old driver, Nathon Jaimes, early the next morning at his home in Reseda.
The victim had worked as a comedian since the 1970s. He appeared at Dangerfield’s, the Comedy Store, and was an opening act for Robin Williams. He also made appearances on “America’s Got Talent” and "
The Late Late Show with James Corden.”
Unfortunately, his life ended following the deadly collision around 11:20 p.m. on Thursday, August 15th, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
LAPD officers responded to the crash scene in front of 19563 Ventura Boulevard, just south of the Ventura (101) Freeway.
Witnesses told authorities they saw the suspect driving a dark sedan hit the 73-year-old Reseda man while the car was heading eastbound on Ventura Boulevard.
The victim was reportedly walking outside of the crosswalk at the time of the crash.
Meanwhile, the suspect fled the scene without stopping to help the man.
Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and pronounced Perry Kurtz dead at the scene.
Police later arrested 18-year-old Nathon Jaimes at his home on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing death. He was later released around 8:45 a.m. after posting $30,000 bail.
Investigators located the suspect’s gray sedan with front-end damage and a smashed windshield. The vehicle was found roughly a half a mile from the crash scene, NBC 4 reports.
The LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division are working on the case.
