COMMERCE, California (March 12, 2017) – A fatal wrong-way crash took place on the 5 Freeway Sunday morning, according to KTLA.
The accident involving two vehicles occurred around 5:20 a.m. near Slauson Avenue.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said a Mini Cooper was allegedly going the wrong way on the freeway when it collided head-on with a van head-on. Both reportedly overturned upon impact.
Los Angeles County Fire Department affirmed the woman driving the van and her male passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The wrong-way driver, a man, also died at the crash site. One of the victims was later identified as John Perez, 29, of Downey. The coroner did not specify whether or not Perez was the passenger or the wrong-way driver.
The names of the other deceased have not bene yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, CHP added that the Mini Cooper was traveling at slow speeds in the slow lane when the wreck happened. The investigation is ongoing.
