The collision took place about 7:30 a.m. near Hess Road.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said 32-year-old Casey Norato was driving a Toyota Tundra when he crashed into the back of a horse trailer on Kirker Pass.
The operator of the Ford F-150 truck pulling the trailer, and the horse named Chance, suffered serious injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Both the truck driver and Chance are recovering however the horse can no longer be ridden because of the injuries it sustained.
Meanwhile, Norato was picked up by a white sedan following the accident. He was then arreste and was being held at the Martinez jail as of Saturday.
The suspect is expected to be charged with felony hit-and-run as well as driving with a suspended license.
