Fiery, Head-on Crash on State Route 4 in Copperopolis
COPPEROPOLIS, Calif. (Sept. 13, 2024) — A head-on crash involving major injuries happened Friday morning on State Route Highway 4, just west of Horseshow Lane in Copperopolis, California.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at 6:45 a.m. on Sept. 13th, in Calaveras County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported at least one person was airlifted and another by ambulance to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto due to major injuries from the crash.
The drivers of a blue Subaru and a red Subaru were involved and both vehicles caught on fire. The occupants managed to exit their vehicles. Meanwhile, firefighters responded in an attempt to extinguish the flames before they reached nearby grass.
Caltrans closed down Highway 4 in both directions due to the collision and subsequent fire.
Investigators are working to determine fault for the head-on crash on Highway 4 in Copperopolis.
