CORONA, California (July 21, 2015) — A motorcyclist possibly broke his leg Tuesday morning in a crash with a white minivan that appears to have fled after hitting the rider on the westbound State Route 91 Corona Freeway, just east of Lincoln Avenue, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The report said the white van or minivan struck the green 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle in the HOV lane of the 91 Freeway. A black SUV may have also been involved or a witness to the crash.
The Corona Fire Department responded to help the injured rider, but there were no further details about the rider’s condition. A SigAlert was issued for the crash and Hamner Tow removed the bike and stored it for evidence.
“Hopefully police will be able to find this driver who fled the scene,” Attorney James Johnson said. “Motorcyclists are often victims of hit-and-run crashes on our busy freeways that’s why it’s so important for these riders to carry uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage on their insurance policy.”
A victim of a hit-and-run crash who carries an uninsured or underinsured motorist policy with their insurance company can protect themselves if they are injured in a hit-and-run crash or with a driver who carries only the minimal $15,000 policy, Johnson said.
Most collisions involving pedestrians , bicyclists and motorcycles involve serious injuries and require far more than a minimum policy can provide in terms of medical costs.
