CORONA, California (Friday, July 10, 2015) – A green van collided into a retaining wall on the right shoulder of the eastbound State Route Highway 91. The collision with the wall sparked an engine fire and blocked the fourth lane of the highway, which in turn caused a motorcyclist to careen into the burning wreckage just minutes later. Both parties appear to have been injured.
The accident occurred at quarter past eight o’clock in the evening on a stretch of Highway 91 just west of the Green River Golf Club. By the time the California Highway Patrol arrived on the scene at 8:21 p.m. individuals in a red Honda Civic had already stopped to help the driver of the van escape the flames. Six minutes later the motorcycle rear-ended the van. At last report an ambulance and clean-up crews had been dispatched.
Police are investigating the incident, but it’s believed a mechanical failure may have been at fault.
