Deadly Crash on 405 Freeway in Costa Mesa
COSTA MESA, Calif. (March 10, 2020) – A 20-year-old Inglewood man died in a two-vehicle crash on the Interstate 405 Freeway in Costa Mesa
The collision was reported at 12:45 a.m. near the Harbor Boulevard on-ramp, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The CHP stated that an SUV that was in the center divider was struck by a truck.
The Inglewood man was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro and reportedly came upon a disabled 2005 BMW X5 that hit the median was partially blocking the southbound HOV lane, the CHP said.
The Camaro reportedly lost control as it neared the disabled vehicle and hit the back of the BMW SUV with its passenger side. The driver in the Camaro died, but the BMW’s driver survived with minor injuries. The 24-year-old Mission Viejo man was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center.
After the crash, there were several good Samaritans who stopped to directed other motorists away from the crash scene, the CHP said.
The crash took place in the southbound lanes and prompted the CHP to close five lanes including the carpool lane.
The crash remains under investigation to determine fault.
