The accident involving two vehicles occurred around 4 a.m. north of 55 Freeway.
As per the reports, California Highway Patrol said a 29 year-old man was driving a silver 2001 Ford Mustang south in the northbound lanes when he struck a black-colored 2004 Ford SUV head-on which was headed north at the time.
The force of the collision caused the SUV to become engulfed in flames. The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene.
Orange County Coroner’s Office identified the wrong-way motorist as Jose Garcia Lopez, of Fullerton. The name of the 36-year-old man driving the SUV has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
The incident remains under investigation.
