COSTA MESA, California (October 6, 2016) — A motorcyclist injured Thursday morning in a collision with a car in the HOV lane on the southbound Interstate 405 Freeway, a California Highway Patrol report said.
The crash took place about 7:49 a.m. this morning between the rider and a silver Toyota Corolla near the Fairview Road on ramp, the report said. The car was blocking the HOV lane and the rider was laying in the carpool lane.
The Costa Mesa Fire Department responded to the scene to help the injured.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash and liability.
Orange County Car Accidents
There were 165 people killed including 30 motorcyclists and 13,837 people were injured in 2013 Orange County traffic accidents, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Statewide integrated Traffic Report. In Costa Mesa, 9 people were killed and 758 were injured in crashes in 2013, including three fatal motorcycle crashes and 59 injury motorcycle crashes, the CHP statistics report said.
