Cottonwood Motorcycle Accident Interstate 5 Freeway, Sunset Hills Drive

COTTONWOOD, Calif. (August 17, 2026) — A major injury motorcycle accident happened Monday morning in Cottonwood on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway, near the Sunset Hills Drive off ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials reported the crash at 9:44 a.m. on August 17th, 2026. The initial call stated a motorcyclist went down in the roadway after a collision with another vehicle. The rider called 911 and reported having an injury to the left side of their face. The person was on the right shoulder and told police dispatchers a driver in a silver Chrysler merged into him and caused the crash.
Paramedics responded and rushed the injured motorcyclist to Mercy hospital for treatment of major injuries.
The CHP report stated that only the motorcycle rider crashed their vehicle. However, the driver of the Chrysler stopped on the right shoulder of the freeway.
Traffic investigators are working to determine fault for the collision.
