COVELO, California (January 10, 2017) — A 57-year-old Covelo man suffered major injuries after being attacked by three Pit Bull Terrier dogs on an evening walk on Wright Way, according to a report by KRCR News 7.
Pollard Hale was attacked on the evening of January 4. The man was severely mauled by the animals when they got out of their yard through an open gate at their home on Wright Way. One report on the attack stated he may lose his left arm due to the injuries. Hale’s son also suffered wounds to his hands as he went to his rescue. The owner of the animals apparently went to help Hale by getting the dogs under control.
Pollard suffered major injuries to his face and limbs. He was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he is being treated in intensive care for major injuries. His doctors told the man’s wife that he will have to undergo extensive rehabilitation to recover from the wounds.
The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Animal Control Division was informed of the dog attack the following morning about 10:20 a.m. when they got a call from the man’s wife.
The owner of the dogs has been identified as Miguel Escareno Pinon, 24, who lives on Wright Way. The dog owner has been cooperating with police and his dogs are under quarantine by animal control for 10 days. Pinon had a previous dog bite incident with a different animal at the same location.
The incident remains under investigation by police.
