3 Injured Crescent City Crash on Highway 199, Motorcyclist Killed
CRESCENT CITY (July 18, 2017) – A fatal head-on collision occurred on Highway 199 Sunday, July 16, according to Times-Standard.
The accident involving a motorcycle took place at about 6:10 p.m., north of Gasquet.
As per the article, California Highway Patrol said a Jeep Cherokee was traveling northbound on the highway when a southbound Harley Davidson motorcycle swerved into the opposite lane.
The Jeep and the motorcycle then collided head-on. Police officers said the female rider died at the scene.
Meanwhile, three people riding the Jeep at the time were transported to Sutter Coast Hospital for treatment. They sustained what authorities described as minor injuries.
CHP mentioned that the motorcycle was from Lead, South Dakota, while the Jeep was from Redding.
The highway was completely closed for 45 minutes to give way to the investigation.
There are still unanswered questions in this case—was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs a factor? Did excessive speed or distracted driving play a role? Was there recklessness or negligence on the part of either of the two motorists?
