Fatal Crash Involving DUI Driver on Labor Day Weekend
OAKLAND, Calif. (Sept. 5, 2024) — Criscel Dela Rosa died Sunday morning in a multi-vehicle crash involving an alleged DUI driver on the Interstate 880 Freeway, just south of Embaradero Avenue in Oakland.
The deadly, chain-reaction crash occurred at 5:34 a.m. on Sept. 1st, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The first crash involved a white Tesla Model Y, a white Tesla Model 3, and a red Toyota RAV4 SUV, but then a driver in a Freightliner box truck crashed into the back of the Model Y, police said.
The driver of the Model Y, identified as Criscel Dela Rosa, sustained fatal injuries, CHP said.
Investigators working on the case determined the driver of the Tesla Model 3 was driving under the influence and he or she was arrested on DUI charges.
However, there were no arrests made to the driver of the Freightliner who was not breaking the law.
The investigation into what happened is ongoing.
The victim’s family is raising money for her funeral services on Gofundme. She is survived by her husband, her father, and her 7-year-old daughter.
