Teen Riding Skateboard Killed in Monterey Park Car Accident
MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (Nov. 27, 2019) —Cristina Navarro, 63, of Montebello, was arrested on felony hit-and-run charges for the Nov. 18th death of a teenage skateboard rider in a crash at Atlaantic and Newmark avenues in Monterey Park.
Police investigating the crime located a white minivan that was involved in the crash and then arrested Cristina Navarro. The suspect driver posted a bond and got out of jail, but she is schedule to appear for arraignment in the Alhambra Superior Court on Feb. 24, 2020.
Police are urging anyone with information about this collision to call Monterey Park police at 626-307-1200.
Joshua Madrid, 14, was struck and killed by the driver of the white minivan about 9:20 p.m. He reportedly rode his skateboard into the roadway at Atlantic and Newmark avenues in Monterey Park.
The boy texted his mother that he was on his way home prior to the collision. The driver who struck Madrid struck him and then fled the scene.
His parents found out the boy died when a police officer answered the boy’s cell phone.
The Monterey Park Police Department continues to investigate this crime. Detectives are also reviewing surveillance video from the intersection.
