2 Killed, 1 Injured in Crockett Wrong-Way Crash on Interstate 80 Near Carquinez Bridge
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (March 20, 2022) – A wrong-way crash killed two people and injured another on the Interstate 80 near Carquinez Bridge.
According to the East Bay Times and KRON 4 News, the tragic incident took place early Sunday. Officers reported the wreck at around 3:40 a.m.
The crash began when a Honda SUV was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of the Interstate 80 in Crockett. At the same time, a Tesla Model 3 was going east.
The California Highway Patrol said the wrong-way car then struck the Tesla head-on near the Carquinez Bridge. The Tesla rolled over while the SUV ended up on top of the Tesla.
Multiple Cars Collide
A Toyota Camry headed east approached and collided with the two vehicles. Both the Honda and the Tesla obtained major damages and became fully engulfed in flames.
The driver of the Tesla and the motorist in the SUV died at the scene. The person driving the Toyota sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, the cause of the fatal wreck is still under investigation.
CHP forced the eastbound lanes of the Interstate 80 to shut down for several hours near the bridge following the wrong-way crash.
