Fatality Crash in Cupertino on Highway 85 at the I-280 Freeway
CUPERTINO, Calif. (Sept. 16, 2020) — A 45-year-old woman driving a 2003 Lexus died Wednesday when she collided with another vehicle at the on ramp to State Route 85 in Cupertino.
The crash was set off when the driver in a black Lexus sedan allegedly was merging into another traffic lane and collided with a white 2015 Lexus before veering off the roadway and down a hill, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The collision was reported to the CHP at 8:52 a.m. at the connector to the Interstate 280 Freeway. Another white vehicle and a blue sedan were also involved in the collision for a total of four vehicles. Police issued a SigAlert due to blockage of both the north and south connecting highways to the southbound I-280 Freeway.
Paramedics responded to the scene where at least one person was critically injured and later died. Two vehicles were towed for evidence after the crash and police are investigating liability and the cause of the wreck.
