2 Children Killed; 5 Other People Hospitalized
CUYAMA, Santa Barbara County (September 5, 2016) – Two children died in a deadly 2-car accident took place on westbound Highway 166 Monday afternoon, according to KEYT.
Driver Jerald B. Holman, 36, of Bakersfield was driving a red Toyota Camry allegedly DUI when his car crashed with another motorist.
The collision occurred just before 5 p.m., east of Spanish Ranch. A total of eight people were involved in the wreck.
The California Highway Patrol stated that Holman was traveling in the westbound lanes, lost control of the car and veered into the oncoming eastbound traffic. His vehicle struck a Chevrolet driven by Aaron Pyne, 30, of Yucaipa.
Both Aaron and Katherine Pyne, 31, sustained injuries and so did their two children in the back seat, a 7-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy.
All four of the family members were taken to the emergency room for their injuries.
The Toyota was ripped into two pieces separating the back of the vehicle from the front. Two children were seated in the back seat and ejected during the crash. Fabious Foreman, 7, and his sister, Zaniah Coleman, 4, died at the scene.
The CHP affirmed that a mother and two more children were airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital while two adults were taken by ground ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center. All five suffered moderate injuries. Todeshia Lewis, 26 of Bakersfield was identified as one of the adults hospitalized.
