3 Killed in DUI Collision at Brookhurst Street and Orange Avenue
Anaheim, CA (December 24, 2021) – Police arrested 27-year-old Cynthia Lizbeth Ayala in relation with a deadly hit-and-run crash that occurred in the area of Brookhurst Street and Orange Avenue.
According to My News LA, Ayala was behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz sedan traveling in the streets of Anaheim on May 4,2021. When the car approached the intersection at Brookhurst Street and Orange Avenue, it collided with a black Kia with three occupants.
The article published online confirmed all three parties in the Kia sadly died as a result of the wreck. Officials identified the fatal victims as 32-year-old Jacob Rolon of La Mirada; 36-year-old Richard Zuniga of Anaheim; and 63-year-old Alexander Smiller of Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, authorities mentioned Cynthia Ayala fled the scene before police arrived. Investigators eventually gathered information and found the location of the hit-and-run suspect. Detectives later learned Ayala was intoxicated at the time of the horrible crash.
On December 10, Friday, authorities charged the woman with three counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated; and single counts each of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury; driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of .08% causing injury; and hit-and-run with permanent and serious injury–all felonies. She also faces sentencing enhancements for fleeing the scene after committing vehicular manslaughter.
