PHELAN (September 17, 2017) – A bicyclist was killed in an alleged DUI hit-and-run crash on Johnson Road Friday afternoon, according to Victor Valley.

San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Division identified the victim as 26-year-old Damian Chase Frazier, of Phelan.

As per the article, deputies said Frazier was riding his bicycle north on Johnson Road when he was struck from behind by a 2003 Chevy Silverado. The accident took place north of La Mesa Road near the California Aqueduct.

Sage Goodman, 23, Arrested

Frazier was taken by ambulance to Desert Valley Hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries at 3:02 p.m.

Officials affirmed that the driver of the truck, 23-year-old Sage Aaron Jones Goodman, did not see Frazier and hit him. Goodman reportedly failed to stop and fled the scene.

The Wrightwood man was later located and arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run and DUI with a bail set at $250,000.

We offer our prayers and most heartfelt condolences to the family members and friends of Mr. Damian Frazier during such a difficult time.

In this case, Mr. Sage Goodman will be held fully responsible for causing the tragic accident that led to the death of Mr. Damian Frazier. It is expected for any motorist to stop and remain at the scene after being involved in a crash. Regardless of his reasons, fleeing the area is a serious crime and punishable by law, especially if the collision killed another individual.

Aside from leaving the area, the suspect is also accused of driving under the influence of alcohol at the time. The family of Mr. Frazier has then the right to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against Mr. Goodman who has evidently neglected the safety of others on the road. They will be entitled to a recompense for the funeral costs, loss of future income and loss of love and companionship. No monetary amount can replace the loss of a loved one, however, it is important that the surviving family is aware of their legal rights.

Without the representation of a lawyer, insurance companies might make contact with you directly, and since they are trained to protect their best interests, this could mean a loss of rights on your behalf, especially if you unknowingly sign something that they didn't completely explain to you.
