Damian Villanueva and Alejandro Olivas Killed in Kern County Crash on Highway 46
KERN COUNTY, CA (October 14, 2022) – Damian Villanueva and Alejandro Olivas were killed after a crash on Highway 46 in Kern County.
The coroner’s office identified the Wasco men as the victims of the fatal collision which occurred on Wednesday.
The incident happened when Damian Eden Orpineda was driving a 2003 Toyota with Alejandro Orpineda Olivas east on Highway 46 in Kern County.
A 2010 Freightliner was traveling in the same direction at the time. For an unknown reason, the 32-year-old driver of the semi-truck crossed over the broken yellow line.
Lovepreet S. Dhillon, of Bakersfield, then drove the Freightliner partially in the westbound lanes. In the process, the 2022 big rig hit a 2010 Freightliner going west.
2 Injured in Wreck
The newer truck continued, spun out of control eastbound and struck the Toyota on the north shoulder. The California Highway Patrol said the big rig pushed the car backwards.
The 2020 Freightliner rolled over and landed on top of the Toyota, just east of Gun Club Road. The wreck took place on October 5 at about 5:46 a.m.
Damian Villanueva, 23, and Alejandro Olivas, 21, died at the scene of the crash. The Toyota ended up trapped underneath a trailer due to the impact of the collision.
Both operators of the trucks sustained minor injuries as a result of the accident. Paramedics soon provided treatment to the two patients at the site.
The Kern Golden Empire and Taft Midway Driller wrote that the incident is east of Lost Hills and near Wasco. Meanwhile, the cause of the wreck is still under investigation.
Officers forced the westbound lanes of Highway 46 to shut down for several hours following the crash.
