Car Rear-ends Trailer in Deadly Crash on McHenry and Kiernan avenues
MODESTO, Calif. (Sept. 8, 2021) — Damien McGee, 43, was injured Tuesday night when his trailer was rear-ended on McHenry Avenue in Modesto.
The driver was traveling about 45 mph southbound on McHenry Avenue (SR-108) pulling a trailer behind a van.
Meanwhile, Clavey Carlson, 25, of Modesto, came up from behind and rear-ended the trailer.
During the impact, the trailer broke free from the van. The van continued traveling in a southwesterly direction before it veered off the roadway and overturned. Damien McGee suffered minor injuries in the collision.
The two-vehicle collision happened about 9:10 p.m., just south of Kiernan Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Modesto Bee.
Clavey Carlson, 25, of Modesto, suffered major injuries in the crash when his Subaru went off the west side of the road and hit a utility pole.
Paramedics transported Carlson to Doctors Medical Center where he later died of his injuries.
Police are investigating whether or not speed was a factor in the crash.
It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision and it remains under investigation.
