Danelle Aguirre Killed in Crash on Corona (71) Expressway; Suspect Arrested

Hit-and-run Suspect Arrested at U.S.-Mexico Border

Danelle Aguirre Killed in Crash on Corona (71) Expressway; Suspect Arrested CORONA, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2022) — Danelle Aguirre, 41, of Moreno Valley, died in August in a hit-and-run crash on the Corona (71) Expressway, but now authorities have arrested a suspect who fled the scene.

Mexican State Police officials handed over the suspect, Robert Chico Griffin, 46, of Chino, on Monday to California Highway Patrol investigators at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Authorities say the suspect was hiding out in Mexico after allegedly fleeing the deadly crash. However, a joint investigation between the U.S. Marshal and Mexican State Police, recently led to his whereabouts and arrest. He was booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, but posted a $150,000 bond and was released Wednesday.

Additionally, he faces charges of suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run resulting in death.

Deadly Crash on Corona Expressway

The fatal crash happened about 2:25 a.m. on August 15th on the northbound 71, just north of the Riverside (91) Freeway in Corona.

The suspect was traveling northbound on the 71 in a Lexus SC430. There was a Dodge Ram pickup driving in the same direction ahead of him.

Police believe Robert Griffin crashed into the back of the truck and caused the other driver to lose control. The pickup veered off of the highway and overturned.

Danelle Aguirre was a passenger in the Dodge and died in the crash. The pickup truck driver suffered minor to moderate injuries.
