4 Injured in Major Crash on Avenue 48; Driver, 21, Faces DUI Charges
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2022) — Daniel Jesus Barrera, 21, of Indio, was arrested Sunday following a suspected DUI crash at Avenue 48 and Dune Palms Drive in La Quinta.
Four people were injured in the crash on Sept. 18th about 4:49 p.m. between a gray 2021 Dodge Durango and a white 2009 Nissan Rogue, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Daniel Barrera was allegedly driving the Dodge at high speed on Avenue 48 when he rear-ended the Nissan. The driver in the Nissan lost control and the car overturned.
All four people in the Nissan suffered major injuries in the crash. Paramedics transported them to Desert Regional Medical Center for treatment. Meanwhile, Daniel Barrera declined treatment for his injuries.
Deputies with the La Quinta Traffic Team headed up an investigation into the crash.
Police determined the Indio man was driving under the influence of alcohol and arrested him following the collision.
They booked him into John Benoit Detention Center.
