Daniel Lenihan, 54, ID’d as Suspect in Las Flores Fatal DUI Crash
LAS FLORES, CA (April 3, 2023) – Authorities detained Daniel Lenihan after a fatal DUI crash on Antonio Parkway in Las Flores.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 54-year-old San Clemente man was under the influence of drugs on Sunday.
The incident began when Daniel Lenihan was driving a 2017 Hyundai Sonata north on Antonio Parkway in Las Flores. At the same time, a man and a woman were walking with their child in a stroller on a sidewalk along Antonio.
CHP said he then swerved off the roadway, traveled a few hundred feet along the sidewalk and struck the family of three. His car hit the Rancho Santa Margarita residents south of Oaktree.
Baby Killed, Parents Seriously Injured in Collision
The Orange County Register and FOX 11 News wrote that the collision occurred on April 2 at around 4:15 p.m. The victims sustained serious injuries as a result of the accident.
Paramedics rushed the 34-year-old man, the 31-year-old woman and their 11-month-old infant to the hospital for treatment. The baby later died.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, officers soon arrested Daniel Lenihan on suspicion of DUI.
CHP forced the northbound lanes of Antonio Parkway to shut down for hours following the incident. The reports added that a Hyundai came to a stop on an embankment with a damaged windshield.
