Daniel Ramos, 28, Critically injured in San Francisco Hit-and-Run at Polk and Hayes
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 23, 2021) – A fatal hit-and-run crash critically injured Daniel Ramos at Polk and Hayes streets in San Francisco.
Police identified the 28-year-old man as one of the two victims in the accident which took place on Tuesday evening, May 18.
The incident happened when Daniel Ramos and 29-year-old Lovisa Svallingson were walking at Polk and Hayes Streets in San Francisco.
At the same time, Virgil Woods was driving a Chevy Avalanche more than 50 mph south on Polk Street. Police said Virgil Woods then ran a red light.
The pickup truck then crashed into a white Audi A6 that was going west on Hayes. The Chevy ultimately struck the two pedestrians crossing the intersection.
Paramedics pronounced Lovisa Svallingson dead at the scene. The collision occurred at around 7 p.m. near the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in the Civic Center area.
Virgil Woods, 57, Arrested For Hit-and-Run
Daniel Ramos sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the San Francisco crash. Medical personnel rushed him to the Zuckerberg-San Francisco General Hospital in critical condition.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Woods left the Avalanche and ran away. He discarded pieces of clothing to hide and filed a false police report.
KRON 4 News and KTVU News wrote that officers found the suspect possessing multiple glass pipes used to ingest narcotics.
Police soon arrested and booked him into the county jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, two counts of felony hit-and-run, multiple counts of reckless driving.
They also charged the 57-year-old San Francisco man with failure to stop at a red light, filing a false police report, destruction of evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The tragic hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
