Daniel Wetle, 40, ID’d as Suspect in Monterey County Fatal DUI Crash on Highway 68
MONTEREY COUNTY, CA (August 15, 2022) – Authorities detained Daniel Wetle after a fatal DUI crash on Highway 68 in Monterey County.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 40-year-old Marina man was under the influence when the wreck took place on Saturday.
The crash began when Daniel John Wetle was driving a black 2022 BMW 330i west in the No. 1 lane of Highway 68 in Monterey County. At the same time, a red 2017 Toyota Camry was going east.
CHP said he crossed the two-way left turn lane and entered the eastbound No. 1 lane. His car then struck the Toyota, just east of Spreckels Boulevard.
1 Killed, 1 Seriously Injured in Wreck
Paramedics arrived and pronounced the driver of the Camry, a 48-year-old Salinas man, dead at the scene. His passenger survived the incident with major injuries.
Medical personnel rushed the patient to a hospital for treatment. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, Daniel Wetle ended up suffering from minor injuries as a result of the crash. CHP soon arrested him at the site.
They booked Daniel Wetle into the Monterey County Jail for DUI and vehicular manslaughter. Officers forced the eastbound lanes of Highway 68 to shut down for a time following the wreck.
