Santa Barbara, CA (August 5, 2022) – Police arrested 37-year-old Daniel Zuzinec in relation to a deadly pedestrian accident that occurred on Painted Cave Road.

The KSBY4 News reported Zuzinec was driving in the area north of Highway 154 on July 23. While traveling on Painted Cave Road, the motorist struck a woman. It remained unclear whether the pedestrian was walking along, or crossing the roadway when the collision happened.

Shortly after 10 p.m., rescue teams arrived at the site. First responders found a woman lying on the ground. Despite life-saving measures performed by paramedics, the pedestrian sadly succumbed to her injuries and passed away at the scene. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as 45-year-old Nicole Lawson.

Meanwhile, the driver involved in the crash apparently showed signs of intoxication during the investigation process. For this reason, police took Daniel Zuzinec into custody at the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Main Jail. Authorities said the suspect will face charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance; DUI causing injury; and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Further investigation on the case is underway.
