Teenage Boy Critically Injured in Moreno Valley Hit-and-run Crash; Driver Arrested
MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (Feb. 19, 2019) — Darion Coleman, 14, of Moreno Valley, suffered major injuries Saturday in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident in the 22600 block of Cottonwood Avenue.
The crash was reported at 6:33 p.m. to the Moreno Valley Police Department. The teenager was struck by a 2000 Cadillac Escalade driven by Arevalo Garcia Eleazar, 33, of Moreno Valley.
Paramedics and police responded to the scene where the teenager was found suffering from major injuries in the roadway and the driver of the SUV had fled. The victim suffered severe head trauma and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Meanwhile, investigators pieced together evidence and witness statements and were able to locate the suspect at his residence on Moreno Way a short time after. He was arrested at his home the same day after police used a search warrant to search his home and found the Cadillac Escalade containing collision damage.
Eleazar was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of felony hit and run causing serious injuries.
The Moreno Valley Traffic Reconstruction Team is handling the investigation.
