Michigan Man Killed in Crash with Boat at Ski Beach in Mission Bay
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (August 10, 2020) — Darius Kennedy, 21, of Michigan, died after a Jet Ski collision with a boat in Mission Bay.
The Michigan man was riding the Jet Ski when for unknown reasons a boat hit the man and drove away, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The crash happened at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 8th at Ski Beach. The gravely injured man was taken back to the shore by a family member who was riding on the Jet Ski with him.
When the young man got back on shore, he was given CPR and eventually a pulse was detected. However, after he was taken to a hospital he later died of his injuries.
The victim was identified by family members on NBC News.
The driver of the boat reportedly drove off after the collision, but called SDPD to report why he did that.
Police have not called this a hit-and-run crash due to the driver’s statement which included an explanation that his vessel could have taken water. The investigation into the matter is ongoing and that could change as more information is learned by police. The boat has been impounded as evidence and the boat driver could still face charges.
