Darla Soto-Vargas Killed, Thomas Vargas Critically Injured in Hesperia Car Accident
HESPERIA (August 17, 2020) – A woman killed and a man critically injured after a traffic collision near Escondido Avenue and Sultana Street on Friday have been identified.
Family and friends said Darla Soto-Vargas, of the Victor Valley, died while her husband Thomas Vargas survived the tragic accident on August 14.
The couple with their teenage daughter were riding a GMC Yukon when they collided with a Honda CR-V and an Acura on Escondido Avenue near the intersection with Sultana Street.
The Acura ended up into two pieces in the center divider upon impact. The Honda and the GMC sustained major damage and came to a stop in the southbound lanes of Escondido.
Couple’s Daughter Also Hurt in Crash on Escondido Avenue
Fire department officials along with the paramedics pronounced Soto-Vargas and the driver of the Acura dead at the scene. The wreck occurred at around 8:41 p.m. about half-a-mile south of Walmart.
Firefighters extricated Thomas Vargas and the teen from the wreck. Two air ambulances ultimately took them to Loma Linda Hospital for treatment.
Vargas was listed in critical condition while his daughter underwent at least two surgeries. Family members set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the funeral and medical expenses of the deceased and wounded victims.
Police added that the man driving the CR-V did not sustain any wound following the incident. The cause of the tragic incident remains under investigation.
