Man, 54, Struck and Killed on Pershing Drive
SAN DIEGO, Calif. (May 1, 2024) — Darren Stevenson, 54, died Sunday nearly one month after being severely injured in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident in the Balboa Park area of San Diego.
The victim was struck about 8:15 p.m. on April 3rd by a vehicle while walking with a friend in a bicycle lane in the 1300 block of Pershing Drive, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Paramedics responded and transported him to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest. He suffered a brain hemorrhage, skull fractures, a fractured spine and a collapsed lung.
Meanwhile, the suspect fled the crash scene without stopping to help him.
Investigators found debris including a passenger-side mirror at the scene from the suspect’s black 2007 to 2012 Toyota Camry. The car will likely have significant visible damage police said.
