David Cruz, 53, Victim in Goleta DUI Crash
GOLETA (June 8, 2018)- According to the KEYT News, very serious injuries were reported this morning on Highway 217 also referred to as Ward Memorial Boulevard.
At roughly 1:30 a.m., Grady Hocking, 21, was the driver of a 2018 Mazda traveling south on Highway 101 before entering Highway 217 in the wrong direction headed westbound in eastbound traffic lanes.
A short while later, Hocking’s Mazda collided head-on with a 2012 Dodge driven by David Cruz, 53.
Following the crash, authorities confirmed that Cruz sustained a severe leg injury for which he was rushed to a local area hospital for. He is expected to survive.
Grady Hocking, 21, Arrested for DUI
Meanwhile, Hocking suffered a fractured sternum and was determined to have been under the influence while he was driving. Officials plan on arrested Hocking pending his release from the hospital.
According to KEYT News, both drivers were indeed wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.

Based on the preliminary information provided, however, it appears as though the 21-year-old man will be held liable for this crash as it has been determined that he was under the influence as he crossed over into oncoming traffic directly into the path of the 53-year-old man.
