Fresno Man Killed in Hit-and-run Crash is Identified
FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (August 8, 2023) — David Sisneros Diaz, 60, of Fresno, died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on July 26th at North Bishop Avenue and West Shields Avenue in Fresno County.
The deadly crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection near Kerman, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A driver in a purple Honda Pilot SUV allegedly struck the victim in the roadway. A witness told 911 operators that the driver initially pulled over on the right shoulder. The man stopped to check the damaged to his vehicle. Meanwhile, the pedestrian was gravely injured and laying in the northbound lane on Bishop Avenue. Next, the driver that hit the person drove away without helping them. The suspect’s vehicle “turned into the orchard on the west side of the roadway, just south of Shields,” the witness said.
The witness was unable to get the license plate and lost track of the suspect.
Meanwhile, paramedics were contacted, but sadly David Diaz died at the scene.
Later, police stated they may have located the suspect’s vehicle parked on Floyd Avenue between Shields and McKinley, the report said.
Roughly three hours after the fatal crash, Santiago Ambriz-Cervantez, 32, of Kerman, CA, (see photo) was located at the address where the vehicle was parked and determined to be the driver and suspect in the hit-and-run crash. Authorities booked him into the Fresno County Jail in felony charges of hit and run.
He posted cash bail in the amount of $5,000 and was released. He is scheduled to appear in court at 8 a.m. on August 9th for an arraignment.
The vehicle was towed away for evidence.
