David Hiebel, 68, Killed in Twentynine Palms Highway Truck Accident
TWENTYNINE PALMS, California (June 20, 2017) —David Lewis Hiebel, 68,of Joshua Tree was killed Wednesday in a collision between two trucks on Twentynine Palms Highway, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.
The crash took place about 8:23 a.m., just east of Rotary Way. Police say Hiebel was driving a U-Haul truck that rear-ended another truck on Twentynine Palms Highway. Witnesses told authorities that the white truck had a smoke trail behind it and was traveling about 40 mph when Hiebel’s U-Haul truck crashed into the back of it at a speed estimated about 55 mph.
Paramedics and police responded, but Hiebel died of his injuries at the scene about 9:08 a.m.
The other truck driver was transported to Hi-Desert Medical Center as a precaution, but did not appear to have any serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
