SOMIS, Calif. (June 14, 2023) — David K. Kahlberg, 54, of Camarillo, died in a Somis motorcycle accident Tuesday on Los Angeles Avenue also known as Highway 118 between Mesa School Road and Walnut Avenue.
The two-vehicle collision occurred around 6:49 a.m. on June 13th, a mile or so from Mesa Elementary School, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 43-year-old Fillmore man driving a 2007 Toyota Camry sedan was traveling ahead of the motorcycle rider in the westbound lanes. The driver slowed down to make a left-hand turn into a private driveway. The 54-year-old Camarillo man was riding behind the Toyota. Police believe the motorcyclist attempted to pass the car by using the eastbound lanes and his 2005 Yamaha FJR 1300 crashed into the driver’s side of the car. He suffered severe injuries and someone called 911 for paramedics.
The Ventura County Fire Department responded to help the injured motorcyclist, however by 7:08 another call was made for the coroner. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. He was later identified as David K. Kahlberg.
Meanwhile, police closed down a portion of the roadway to investigate the cause of the crash and liability.
Witnesses to the motorcycle accident on Highway 118 are asked to contact the CHP’s Ventura-area office at 805-662-2640.
The investigation into what happened is ongoing.
