Driver Killed in Crash on Highway 33 is Identified
COALINGA, Calif. (Jan. 25, 2022) – David Melendez-Ruiz, 36, of Lake Elsinore, died in a collision Friday, Jan. 14th on Jayne Avenue (Highway 33) near Enterprise Parkway.
The Fresno County Sheriff Coroner recently identified the driver who died in a two-vehicle traffic accident in east Coalinga on State Route 33.
The crash happened about 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 14th in Coalinga, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials report the man was driving eastbound on Highway 33 in a 2005 Honda Accord, just east of Enterprise Parkway.
The motorist allegedly made an “unsafe turning movement” onto the right dirt shoulder of the highway also known as Jayne Avenue.
Next, David Melendez-Ruiz turned the Honda to the left and that’s when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle, police said.
As the vehicle traveled across the eastbound and westbound lanes of Janye Avenue, the went directly into the direct path of a westbound 2020 Nissan Van.
The driver of the van tried to avoid the collision, but crashed into the right side of the Honda. Sadly, the driver of the Honda suffered fatal injuries during the crash.
It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
