Suspected DUI Driver Arrested After Fatal Crash
SAN BENITO COUNTY, Calif. (Nov. 19, 2024) — David Muigia, 39, of Fresno, died and three others were injured Sunday night in a crash on New Idria Road in San Benito County.
Gabriel Lopez, 27, who was driving the 2024 Can-Am Maverick UTV, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked at San Benito County Jail.
The utility task vehicle was heading north on New Idria Road when the driver made a turn and lost control of the vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol. The vehicle, occupied by four people, went off the roadway and crashed into a drainage ditch.
Paramedics responded and confirmed the death of David Muigia at the scene. Three others were injured in the crash and treated either on the scene or at the hospital.
CHP deputies from the King City station arrested the motorist following the crash and the investigation is ongoing.
