Fatal Crash on Interstate 5 Freeway in Stockton
STOCKTON, Calif. (Sept. 16, 2019) — A young woman died Monday morning in a collision on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway.
The crash was reported at 10:26 a.m. at Hammer Lane to the California Highway Patrol. A 2016 Dodge Dart driven by David Ruiz was heading southbound on the freeway when the driver lost control. The vehicle veered across traffic lanes and down an embankment where it hit a tree on its passenger side. A 24-year-old female passenger in the vehicle was killed.
David Ruiz, 28, was also hurt in the crash. He suffered a possible head injury and was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp.
At least one of the vehicles was towed from the scene as evidence.
The crash remains under investigation by the CHP.
