Truck Crashes into Vehicles on Highway 99 in Chico
BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. (June 11, 2020) — David Sims, 55, of Los Molinos, and Lupe Ortiz, 55, of Los Molinos, both died when a truck collided with several cars on Highway 99 at Neal Road in the Chico area.
The multi-vehicle collision was reported at 12:48 p.m. to the California Highway Patrol. The truck that allegedly set off the crash became fully engulfed in flames.
Jobanjit Singh, 22, of Sacramento, was traveling northbound on Highway 99 in a big rig truck and allegedly failed to stop at the intersection. The truck driver rear-ended a 2015 Honda Accord and pushed it forward into several other cars. The other vehicles hit were a 1995 Honda Civic, a 1994 Buick, a 2004 Honda Odyssey, and a 2019 Chevrolet.
Police closed down the roadway due to the collision and paramedics and firefighters with the CAL FIRE Butte Unit/Butte County Fire Department responded to help those at the scene. At least five people were treated on scene and an unknown number of them were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
The cause of the crash and liability are under investigation.
