Latest News: Crash Claims Lives of Santa Barbara Men
VENTURA, Calif. (June 11, 2024) – A deadly wrong-way crash happened on Highway 101 near Vista Del Mar Drive in Ventura County.
Two Santa Barbara men ages 52 and 55 years old died in the head-on collision at around 2:26 a.m. on June 8th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Furthermore, Ventura CHP officers arrested the suspected wrong-way driver on suspicion of DUI after he allegedly crashed into the victims’ Nissan Versa.
The 21-year-old suspect allegedly drove his Volkswagen southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 101. Next, the car violently crashed into the oncoming Nissan.
Two Men Suffering Major Injuries Die On Scene
Paramedics quickly responded and confirmed the deaths of both men at the scene.
They also transported the 21-year-old Oxnard man to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Police arrested him on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence causing injury, police said.
Finally, the deadly crash on Highway 101 remains under investigation. Witnesses should contact the CHP Ventura station at 805-662-2640.
