Deadly, Head-on Crash Santa Fe Drive, Avenue Two in Merced County

Man, 20, Killed; Man, 60, Critically Injured in Merced County
MERCED, Calif. (March 11, 2025) — A 20-year-old man is dead and another was seriously injured in a head-on crash early Friday morning on Santa Fe Drive at Avenue Two in Merced County.
The collision occurred around 2 a.m. on March 7th, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Police responded to the scene and located a white 2006 BMW sedan and a 2012 Chevrolet sedan involved in the collision.
Investigators determined a 20-year-old Planada man driving the BMW had veered into oncoming traffic and collided with the Chevy sedan.
The young man, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the 60-year-old Atwater man who was driving the Chevrolet was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of major injuries from the collision.
A traffic investigation is underway to determine what led to the Merced crash on Santa Fe Drive and if drugs and or alcohol were factors or not.
